CAHL
I am exceedingly honoured to be given this opportunity
to offer you, as Dean, a brief but warm welcome to the
College of Arts, Humanities, and Languages, or as it is
more commonly referred to; CAHL. CAHL along with
its sister Colleges has for many years been an integral
part of Norton University.
Here at Norton we have always been very proud of the fact that our institution was the first private university to be founded in this
country. Over the last two decades tens of thousands of young graduates, have left the classrooms of Norton University to join organisa-
tions, businesses and companies which have helped to develop this country.
As a British national who has spent almost four decades in the field of education I feel privileged to be part of this prestigious
and internationally recognized institution.
English, my native tongue, is as I am sure you know is often called the global language. It is the dominant language of the 21st
century and is currently spoken by a quarter of the world's population. What you may not know is that it is sometimes referred to as the
language of opportunity.
Why is this?
Well, for anyone who wishes to travel or study abroad a working knowledge of the English Language is not just useful; it is essential! En-
glish gives you the opportunity to travel and to broaden your horizons both as a student and as a prospective employee seeking employ-
ment with any foreign or international organization.
Your proficiency in both spoken and written English will be an asset of tremendous value. An asset which you can take with you wherev-
er in the world you wish to go.
A person who can communicate well in English will be much in demand and it should be added, highly respected particularly within the
business environment both here in Cambodia as well as overseas.
Within CAHL we offer a suite of courses which will prepare you for your future, wherever you choose to live and work, at home or abroad.
Our facilities and equipment are second to none and our teachers are both experienced and highly qualified. Indeed many of our teach-
ing staff have advanced qualifications which were obtained overseas.
We are currently living through constantly changing, exciting, but sometimes difficult times. No-one can sensibly predict with any degree
of certainty how national economies or employment opportunities will look in ten or twenty year's time.
However there is one certainty, whatever happens you can be sure that by studying English at Norton University you will be preparing
yourself well for the journey that lies ahead of you. Your successes at Norton will be followed by continuing success in your chosen
career path.
I wish you the best of luck as you now begin your studies.
